Podcast 5 – David Collins

David Collins

Recorded June 2016

david collins composer photo nezzyonbrass podcastIn this episode Nezzy chats with David Collins, composer with a brass playing background based in Manchester.

David has achived a first class honours music degree at Durham university and is currently studying for his masters Degree at Salford.

He has built up a considerable portfolio of compositions and arrangements for brass bands. Davids music is  available for you to listen to and buy at davecollinsmusic.com –  at the price you think it’s worth!

I think is a great sales strategy as it gives brass bands and players the opportunity to buy more for less and provides the composer with cmplete control over his work.

David is currently playing for Milnrow band and is ‘Composer in Residence’ for Fishburn and Boarhurst and ‘Composer in Association’ for Ebbw Valley Brass who recently commissioned a piece to celebrate their incredible back to back national wins in the 4th, 3rd and 2nd sections.

I first met Dave at Ebbw Valley Brass’s recent CD recording in Tredegar where he travelled down from manchester to discuss and advise on his composition ‘Steel’ which is a featured track.

I have been fortunate to play several of his compositions and arrangements and it is quite obvious that his talent  has a a very bright future. I caught up with Dave, at the beginning of June, via Skype at his home in Manchester to have a chat  about his brass banding and composing career.

A special thanks to the Carton Main Frickley Colliery band for the clip of Broadway Boogie by Dave Collins in the podcast.  Also thanks to Prima Vista Musikk , Publisher of Broadway Boogie.
